The preparation of moong dal halwa is very simple. Firstly, mooned dal is soaked in water and then grounded into a coarse paste. Finally, its cooked with ghee and jaggery. Cardamom powder is incorporated into moong dal halwa, it enhances its flavor. It is garnished with nuts. The result is a rich, aromatic, and intensely flavorful halwa that has a unique texture and a delightful balance of sweetness. Traditionally, moong dal halwa is made with sugar but for making it a healthy halwa I have added jaggery instead of sugar in this recipe.

Moong Dal Halwa Ingredients
Moong Dal-1 Cup
Powdered Jaggery-1 Cup
Water-1 Cup
Ghee-2 tbs+1/2 Cup
Rava/Sooji-1 tbs
Cardamom Powder-1/2 tsp
Cashew Nuts Split-8
How To Make Moong Dal Halwa
- Firstly, soak moong dal for 2 hours. Then drain the water and grind the soaked moong dal into a slightly coarse paste.
- Further, in a heavy bottomed pan add powdered jaggery and water. Then heat it and let the jaggery dissolve completely.
- Then strain it and keep it aside.
- Next heat 2tbs ghee in a pan. Then add rava/sooji in it and sauté it in low flame until it turns aromatic.
- Then add the moong dal paste and cook it till it absorbs ghee.
- Further add jaggery syrup in it and mix well.
- Cook it in medium flame until the jaggery syrup is absorbed well by the mixture.
- Then add cardamom powder and mix it well.
- Further add 1/2 cup ghee and cook it until the mixture starts to separate from the pan.
- Finally add cashew nuts and mix it.
- Moong Dal Halwa is now ready to serve.
