Beetroot Pickle Recipe | Beetroot Dates Pickle | Kerala Style Biryani Pickle with Video Recipe. Sweet sour and less spicy pickle made with beetroot and dates. It is a popular pickle in malabar region of Kerala. This pickle is served as a condiment along with biryani in malabar, hence it’s known as biriyani pickle in Kerala.
Beetroot pickle is an instant pickle, which you can easily make within 10 minutes. This pickle has a sweet taste. The sweet taste comes from the beetroot and dates used for making this pickle
Kids will love the taste of this pickle as it has a sweet taste. My daughter won’t taste any pickles as all pickles are spicy in taste, but she likes the taste of this pickle as it is not that spicy and sweet in taste. You can also give this pickle to your little ones as a side dish with rice.
This pickle has a long shelf life. Store it in an airtight container or glass jar. Initially you can keep it in room temperature for few days thereafter keep it in refrigerator. It stays fresh in the refrigerator for three to four months.

Beetroot Dates Pickle Ingredients
Deseeded Dates-20
Beetroot-1 (Grated)
Sesame Oil/Coconut Oil-4 tbs
Mustard Seeds-1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves-3 Sprigs
Garlic-2 pods (Sliced to thin slices)
Ginger-Small piece
Green chilli- 4 (chopped)
Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
Chilli Powder-1 tsp
Asafoetida Powder-1/4 tsp
Fenugreek Powder-1/4 tsp
Salt
Vinegar-1/2 Cup
How To Make Beetroot Dates Pickle
- Firstly, soak the deseeded dates in hot water for 30 minutes.
- Then grind it to a fine paste and keep it aside.
- Further heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves in it and let it splutter.
- Add garlic pods, ginger and green chilli in it. Saute it until it turns light golden brown in color.
- Then add turmeric powder and chilli powder in it. Saute it until raw smell of powders disappears.
- Next add asafoetida powder, fenugreek powder and salt in it and mix it well.
- Add the dates paste in it . Mix it and cook it well.
- Further add grated beetroot and salt to taste in it.
- Mix it well and cook it for 5 minutes.
- Then add vinegar in it. Mix it well and cook it for 5 minutes.
- Beetroot Pickle is now ready.
