Aval Milk Recipe | Poha Milk Shake | Rice Flakes Milk Shake with Video Recipe.  Aval Milk Shake is a tasty cool drink that blends the healthful value of rice flakes also known as poha with the rich and creamy texture of milk. It is a popular drink sold in the streets of malabar region of kerala. But these days it is available in many milkshake shops in kerala. Anybody can make this milk shake at home, you just need poha/aval, banana and peanuts or any type of nuts for making this milk shake.


Avil milk is prepared by just adding roasted poha, mashed banana and roasted peanuts to chilled milk. It is available in different flavors.

In this recipe, I have used kerala matta aval/ red aval, but you can use thin or thick white aval/poha as well. Usually mysuru or palayam kodan pazham will use in this milk shake, but you can use any type of ripe banana. Instead of normal cow milk you can use coconut milk, almond milk or soy milk for a vegan version. In this recipe I have used roasted peanuts but you can use roasted alomonds or casewnuts instead of roasted peanuts if you don’t like peanut taste or if you have peanut allergy. I added boost for adding extra flavour for this milk shake, you can use horlicks or bournvita as well. Also you can add vanilla ice cream as a topping in this milk shake.

Aval Milk Ingredients

Poha/Aval- 1 Cup

Small ripe bananas-5

Sugar-3.5 tbs

Boost-2 tbs

Cold Milk-2 Cup

Roasted Peanuts-2 tbs

Cashewnuts-2 tbs

Ghee-1 tbs

How To Make Aval Milk

  • Firstly, heat 1 tbs ghee in a pan, add poha in it and roast it until it turns crispy. Keep it aside.
  • Then mash ripe bananas. Add sugar and boost in it and mix everything well.
  • Further add cold milk in it and mix well.
  • Finally, add roasted peanuts, cashew nuts, and roasted aval in it and mix it. Aval milk is now ready.
  • Pour aval milk into a glass and garnish it with roasted peanuts, cashew nuts and boost.
