Today I would like to share with you the recipe of a variety chicken curry, that is made with black chicken. Black chicken is also known as kadaknath and karin kozhi in Malayalam. All parts of this chicken is black in color. It’s meat also black in color. Black chicken has many health benefits. Black chicken is a good source of iron and nutrients. It has a rich amount of vitamin E,B1,B2,B6 and B12, also black chicken is rich in antioxidants. Black chicken has the lower cholesterol level compared to the white chicken, so it is good for the people who are trying to avoid foods which have high level of cholestrol. Try this healthy chicken recipe. It is very easy to prepare. This recipe of chicken curry is different from the normal chicken curry recipe. In this recipe of chicken curry, you don’t need to fry onions, tomato and spice powders. Instead of frying onions and other ingredients, I just added them along with the chicken pieces in a pressure cooker, while cooking the chicken pieces. Ingredients
Kadaknath chicken/Karin Kozhi/Black Chicken Pieces-500gm
Turmeric Powder-1/2 tsp
Redchilli Powder-1 tsp
Coriander Powder-2 tsp
Salt to taste
Onion-2 (Chopped)
Green chilies-2
Tomatoes-2 (Chopped)
Curry leaves
Potatoes-2 (Chopped)
Oil- 2tbs
Mustard Seeds-1 tsp
Coconut Slices-10 to 12
Small onions-10 (Chopped)
Ginger-1 tbs (Chopped)
Garlic-1 tbs (Chopped)
Pepper Powder-2 tsp
Fennel Powder-2 tsp
Garam Masala-1 tsp
Handful of mint leaves
Handful of coriander leaves
Method Of Preparation
- Take a bowl. Add chicken pieces in it. Add turmeric powder, redchilli powder, coriander powder, salt to taste, onion, green chilies, tomatoes, curry leaves and potatoes in it.
- Mix everything well with your hand.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Transfer it into a pressure cooker.
- Pressure cook it for 5 to 6 whistles or until chicken pieces are cooked well.
- Once chicken pieces are cooked well, switch off the flame and keep it aside.
- Take a heavy bottomed pan. Heat oil in it.
- Add mustard seeds in it.
- Let it splutter.
- Once it spluttered add coconut slices in it.
- Sure it until coconut slices turns golden brown in color.
- Add small onions in it.
- Saute it until onion turns translucent.
- Add ginger and garlic in it.
- Saute it until it turns golden brown in color.
- Add cooked chicken pieces in it.
- Add water as required in it.
- Add pepper powder, fennel powder and garam masala and salt as needed in it.
- Mix it well.
- Close it with a lid & cook it for 2 minutes.
- Finally add handful of mint leaves and coriander leaves in it.
- Mix it well & cook it for 1 minute.
- Kadaknath chicken curry is now ready to serve.
