Tofu, also known as bean curd, is a food made by coagulating soy milk and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks. Tofu is similar to paneer except that it is made with soy milk which is said to be protein rich and low in cholesterol when compared to paneer. Its mainly used in Asian cuisine where tofu is substituted for meat in vegetarian dishes.Today I am posting here the recipe of pepper tofu. As my husband is expert in preparing pepper chicken one day he substituted chicken with tofu. It came out nicely, We loved its taste. We served it as a side dish with rice. Ingredients
Extra firm Tofu-14 oz (cut into small cubes)
Onion-4,finely chopped
Tomato-2,chopped
Capsicum-1,chopped
Ginger garlic paste-1 tbs
Green chilies-3
Lemon Juice-2 tsp
Redchili powder-2 tsp
Coriander powder-1 1/2 tbs
Garam masala powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Pepper powder-1 1/2 tsp
Crushed Pepper corns-1 tbs
Coconut pieces-few
Curry leaves-few
Salt to taste
Oil-1 1/2 tbs
Method Of Preparation
- Heat 1 tbs oil in a pan and add the tofu cubes. Fry on medium flame till all the moisture evaporates and the sides are browned.
- Once the tofu becomes crispy and brown take it out and switch off the flame . Marinate the tofu pieces with turmeric powder,redchili powder,pepper powder,salt and lemon juice and keep it aside
- Add 11/2 tbs oil in the same pan, which is used for frying the tofu and heat it. Then add some curry leaves,then add finely chopped onions.Saute it well until onion becomes brown in color
- Then add ginger garlic paste,green chilies,turmeric powder,redchili powder,garam masala powder,coriander powder,pepper powder and salt.Saute it for 1 minute
- After 1 minute add tomatoes and capsicum in it and cook well
- Once tomatoes are cooked well mash the tomatoes and add the marinated tofu pieces in it
- Mix well. Close it with a lid and keep the flame in medium.Cook it for few minutes
- Then add the crushed pepper corns and lemon juice in it and mix well and cook for 2 minutes
- After 2 minutes add lemon juice again and mix well and turn off the heat
- Heat oil in a pan and add curry leaves in it and saute for few minutes then add curry leaves in the cooked tofu
- Serve it hot as a side dish with rice or roti
