Ingredients
Toor Dal-3/4 cup
Cumin Seeds-1 tsp
Ginger-1 inch (chopped)
Garlic cloves-4 (chopped)
Green chilli-1
Onion-1 (chopped)
Salt to taste
Ghee/Oil-2 tbs
Coriander Leaves
Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
Coriander Powder-1/2 tsp
Redchilli Powder-3/4 tsp
Garam Masala-1/4 tsp
Tomato-1 (chopped)
Dried Redchilli-1
Hing-a pinch
How To Make Dal Tadka
- Add toor dal in a cooker and add turmeric powder, salt, oil and water in it and mix well. Then cook it for 6 whistles.
- Once dal is cooked well, keep it aside.
- Heat ghee in a pan. Then add cumin seeds, ginger, garlic cloves and green chilli in it. Saute it until it turns golden brown in color.
- Then add onion and salt in it. Saute it until onion turns golden brown in color.
- Further add turmeric powder, coriander powder and redchilli powder in it.
- Saute it until raw smell of powders goes off.
- Next add chopped tomato and salt in it. Saute it until tomato turns mushy.
- Then add cooked dal in it and mix well.
- Further add water and salt to taste in it and mix well.
- Cover it with a lid and cook it for 5 minutes.
- Finally add garam masala, kasuri methi and coriander leaves in it and mix well.
- Switch off the flame and keep it aside.
- Heat ghee in a pan. Then add cumin seeds, dried red chilli, hing, coriander leaves and redchilli powder in it and let it splutter.
- Pour this over the prepared dal curry and mix well.
- Dal tadka is now ready to serve.
