Puli Inji Recipe with Video Recipe. Onam 2019 will begin on Sunday, 1 September and ends on Friday, 13 September. This year I thought to share with you the recipes of some of the items that we will prepare for onam sadhya. So Stay tuned to my blog for getting ready for preparing sadhya for the upcoming Onam festival. Hope it will be useful for all my readers who are beginners in making sadhya at home as I included the video recipe of each items that I prepare.  Let us start with Puli Inji. Puli Inji is a sweet and sour ginger pickle prepared for kerala sadhya. I think it is the one of the favorite dishes of almost all keralites. The main ingredients of this puli inji are ginger,tamarind and jaggery. We usually prepares this day before the sadhya,so that we can keep it overnight and will be perfect for the next day’s sadhya. It can be refrigerated and store like pickles.Let us see how to prepare this tasty pickle


Ingredients

Ginger(finely chopped)-1 cup
Green chilies-3-4 finely chopped
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Red chili powder-1/2 tsp
Asafoetida powder-a pinch
Fenugreek powder-1/4 tsp
Tamarind-Lemon sized ball
Lukewarmwater-2 cup
Powdered Jaggery-1/2 cup
Coconut oil- 4 tbs
Dried red chilies-2-3 broken
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Curry leaves-4-5
Salt to taste


Method Of Preparation

  • Soak the tamarind in 2 cup of lukewarm water for 15 minutes and then squeeze the tamarind to extract the juice and then strain it
  • Heat 2tbs coconut oil in a pan then add the chopped ginger pieces, green chilies and few curry leaves in it and sauté well until the ginger turns golden brown in color
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and fenugreek powder in it and saute it until raw smell of powders goes. 
  • Pour the extracted tamarind juice in it. Add a pinch of asafoetida powder and salt in it and mix well. Let it boil
  • Finally add the jaggery in it and mix well. Reduce the flame to low and cook for 15 minutes,so that the gravy gets thick
  • Once the gravy is thicken switch off the flame
  • Next for seasoning, Heat 2tbs coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seeds in it, when it splutters add dried redchillies and curry leaves in it. Saute it for few minutes.
  • Add the seasoning into the puli inji
  • Let it set aside for an hour then The tasty Puli Inji will be ready to serve
