Fish Stew / Fish Molee is a special dish of Kerala. Kerala is a land of coconut trees. so for all dishes we prepare mostly we will use coconut. Coconut tastes makes the dishes more tasty. This fish curry is also prepared with coconut milk. Here I shallow fried the fish and then cooked that fish in coconut milk gravy. As I am a big fan of fish I prepared this curry for our morning breakfast with Appam. It was very tasty than any other stews I prepared before. It is very easy to prepare. Ingredients

King fish/Pomfret or any firm flesh fish-1/2 kg
Onion-1 large (thinly sliced)
Green chilies-2
Tomato-1
Ginger garlic paste-1 tbs
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Black Pepper powder-1 tsp
Thin Coconut milk-1 cup
Thick Coconut milk-1/2 cup
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Curry leaves-2 springs
Lemon Juice-1 tbs
Coconut oil-2 tbs
Salt to taste


Method Of Preparation

  • Wash and clean the fish pieces and pat dry it
  • Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric powder,pepper powder,salt and lemon juice and set aside for 15-20 minutes
  • Shallow fry the marinated fish pieces on medium heat and keep it aside
  • Heat coconut oil in a pan
  • Splutter mustard seeds then add ginger garlic paste and saute for few minutes
  • Then add onion,green chilies and curry leaves in it and saute till the onions becomes soft and translucent
  • Add tomato and saute for a minute
  • Add the pepper powder and mix well and reduce the heat
  • Add the thin coconut milk and salt in it and mix well
  • Add the fried fish pieces in it. cover the lid and cook for few minutes.As fish is half cooked while frying you just need to cook it for few minutes only
  • Finally add the thick coconut milk in it and cook on low flame 
  • Remove the pan from fire and add some lime juice and top with some coconut oil in the end
  • Serve this curry with Appam, Idiyappam or string hoppers or with steamed rice
