Vishu is an important kerala festival celebrated in the month of Medam,usually it comes on April14th or 15th every year.

Vishu Kani
The most important event in the vishu is the Vishu kani, which literally means “the first thing seen on the day of vishu after waking up”.The vishu kani consists of a ritual arrangement of auspicious articles intended to signify prosperity including rice, fruits and vegetables, betel leaves,metal mirror, yellow flowers called konna and coins in a bell metal vessel called uruli in the prayer room of house. This is arranged night before the vishu On vishu the custom is to wake up at dawn and go to the prayer room of the house with eyes closed so that vishu kani is the first sight in the new season.According to the belief of malayalees, an auspicious kani at dawn on the vishu day is lucky for the entire year.
Vishu Padakkam(Crackers)
Crackers and lights are an important part of vishu celebration. In the morning and on the eve, children enjoys setting off fire crackers.
Vishu Kodi(Puthu Kodi)
Tradition of buying of new clothes for the occasion of vishu is called Vishu Kodi
Vishu Kaineetam
The tradition of elders giving money to younger ones in the family, or of hosts giving money to tenants or servants. This is called Vishu Kaineetam
