Kitchen Accessories
 
            Having the proper kitchen accessories makes cooking a lot easier and more enjoyable. The following kitchen accessories and utensils are basic tools you should consider to add to your kitchen. You may be able to improvise by using other kitchen accessories if you don’t have all the tools needed. 
 
 
 
 
  • Can Opener – It is good to have one that is easy to wash.
  • Colander – Used for draining food after cooking or after washing.
  • Cutting Board – Make sure to wash this kitchen accessory im mediately after cutting raw meat, especially poultry.
  • Grater – Should have various sizes of openings for a variety of shredding and grating of cheeses, vegetables and fruit peels.
  • Knives – Paring knife for fruits & vegetables, a chef’s knife for chopping, slicing, dicing and for crushing a clove of garlic, and a multipurpose knife for slicing bread, tomatoes, cooked meats and carving a turkey.
  • Measuring Cups & Spoons – These kitchen accessories allow you to measure accurately and successfully follow a recipe.
  • Meat Thermometer – A kitchen accessory to help ensure meats, poultry and fish are totally cooked.
  • Mixing Bowls – It is handy to have two or three different size bowls.
  • Potato Masher – To mash those potatoes.
  • Spatula – It works well for turning over many foods other than pancakes.
  • Shears – All purpose cutting, trimming of ingredients, herbs, etc.
  • Large Spoon – Good for mixing ingredients.
  • Slotted Spoon – Used to lift solid foods out of liquids.
  • Strainer – To drain liquids from foods.
  • Timer – When a recipe gives a range of time, make sure to set timer to the minimum time setting and check to see how cooked your food is and then adjust your timer accordingly.
  • Tongs – This a grilling kitchen accessory must have! Tongs are good to use when you want to flip food with out piercing it.
  • Vegetable Brush – Used to clean up your vegetables such as celery & potatoes.
  • Vegetable Peeler – Very useful for peeling apples, carrots and potatoes.
  • Wire Wisk – Great for all purpose mixing, beating eggs and preparing sauces.
